How it works

Coherent breathing uses equal five-second inhales and five-second exhales, with no holds. That is about six breathing cycles per minute. The pattern is fixed on this page so it stays distinct from tunable resonance breathing. For a slightly faster even rhythm, see equal breathing (4-4).

How to do it

  1. Inhale for five seconds.
  2. Exhale for five seconds.
  3. Keep the two sides even. There is no hold to wait through.
  4. Use a five-minute default, or pick another session length before you start.

Session duration

The default session is five minutes — about thirty cycles at 5-5. One or two minutes works as a quick even-breath break; ten minutes suits a longer steady practice.

When people use it

People often use this as a steady, even rhythm when they want something slower than everyday breathing, without holds. It is a timer, not a treatment.
