How it works

Equal breathing matches inhale and exhale. The default is four seconds in and four seconds out, with no holds. It is simpler and a little faster than coherent breathing’s five-second sides. Want holds? Try triangle breathing or box breathing.

How to do it

  1. Inhale for four seconds.
  2. Exhale for four seconds.
  3. Keep both sides the same length.
  4. Change the session length if you want a shorter or longer practice.

Session duration

The default session is five minutes — about thirty-seven cycles at 4-4. One or two minutes works as a brief even-breath break.

When people use it

People often use equal breathing as a basic even rhythm when they do not want holds or a very slow cycle. Build a custom even pattern on the custom breathing timer.
