How it works
Recovery breathing is a slow even 6-6: six seconds in, six seconds out, no holds. The cycle is 12 seconds, 5 breaths per minute — slower than coherent breathing (5-5, 6 breaths per minute) and slower than equal breathing (4-4). The default session is ten minutes. It is for later in the day after a run or workout, not a mid-interval tool. Right after you stop, post-run breathing (3-6) is the longer-exhale option. Zone percentages live on the heart-rate zone calculator.
How to do it
- Use this when the session is already over — not between track reps.
- Inhale six seconds. Exhale six seconds. Keep the sides equal.
- The default is ten minutes. Drop to five if you want a shorter even cycle.
- If 6-6 feels too slow, open coherent 5-5. If you want a longer exhale, open post-run 3-6.
Session duration
Ten minutes is the default so it sits apart from the two-minute pre-run and five-minute post-run pages. Five minutes is a valid shorter even practice. Twenty minutes is available on the duration control if you want it; this is still a timer, not a recovery protocol.
When people use it
People use a slower even pattern later, once the workout is done. Interval rest seconds are a different problem — that math is on the work/recovery calculator. This page does not track HRV or readiness. More context: the sport hub.

FAQ
What is recovery breathing on this site?
A 6-6 timer with a ten-minute default: equal six-second inhales and exhales, no holds. About five breaths per minute.
How is this different from coherent breathing?
Coherent is fixed 5-5 (~6 breaths per minute) with a five-minute default. Recovery is 6-6 (~5 breaths per minute) with a ten-minute default and post-session copy.
Is this the same as rest between intervals?
No. Rest between reps is a training-plan number. Use the work/recovery calculator for that. This is a slow even breathing timer for later.
Is this medical advice?
No. breathinglab.app provides informational breathing tools and does not provide medical advice.
