How it works
Seconds per cycle and breaths per minute are the same fact written two ways. Breaths per minute is 60 divided by the cycle length. Cycle length is 60 divided by breaths per minute. A 16-second box breathing cycle is 3.75 breaths per minute. Six breaths per minute is a 10-second cycle — often 5 in and 5 out, as in coherent breathing.
How to do it
- Enter inhale, hold, and exhale seconds, or load a preset.
- Read cycle length and breaths per minute.
- Or type a target breaths-per-minute value and apply equal inhale and exhale.
- Start this pattern on a matching timer, or open the custom timer.
When people use it
Use this when you already know either a cycle length or a rate and need the other number before you press Start. For session totals (cycles in five minutes), use the session calculator. For the same math with more rate-focused copy, see the breaths per minute calculator.
Pattern data
- 16-second cycle = 3.75 breaths per minute.
- 10-second cycle = 6.00 breaths per minute.
- 8-second cycle = 7.50 breaths per minute.
- 6 breaths per minute = 10 seconds per cycle.
- 5 breaths per minute = 12 seconds per cycle.
- 4 breaths per minute = 15 seconds per cycle.
FAQ
How do I convert seconds to breaths per minute?
Divide 60 by the cycle length in seconds. A 10-second cycle is 6 breaths per minute.
How do I convert breaths per minute to seconds?
Divide 60 by breaths per minute. Six breaths per minute is 10 seconds per cycle. This converter can split that into equal inhale and exhale.
Is this different from the breaths-per-minute calculator?
Same arithmetic, different page intent. This page is for converting one unit to the other. The breaths per minute calculator leads with rate and presets.
